Even if you’ve never heard the term “white glove services” before, there’s a very good chance that you’ve come across them in some form already.

Typically, white glove services refer to the shipment and delivery of large, high-ticket items, most commonly to a residential setting. Depending on the item, and the carrier, these services can range from simple delivery to a residential driveway to installation and cleanup.

Most often, white glove services are synonymous with residential furniture and appliance delivery, however these services can extend to the B2B sector, as well. In fact, it’s not uncommon for storefronts, office spaces, and other professional facilities to require white glove services for the delivery of furniture, fixtures, and industrial appliances.

Expedited Trucking

Time sensitivity can oftentimes play a factor in the service required for a particular shipment. With traditional LTL shipping, it may be difficult for a carrier to guarantee delivery within a particularly tight time frame. In instances like this, a shipper may opt to enlist an expedited trucking service.

These services utilize several vehicle types ranging from full-sized freight trucks to medium-duty trucks pulling flatbed trailers. Expedited drivers can generally deliver smaller LTL loads directly from point A to point B, as opposed to traditional LTL shipping, wherein multiple shippers, and therefore multiple shipments, share one trailer.

Temperature Sensitive Shipping

Possibly the most common specialized service requested among pallet shippers is temperature control. Specifically, temperature sensitive shipments can largely be separated into two distinct services.

Reefer Services

Reefer is the blanket term that refers to temperature-controlled trailers designed for shipping either refrigerated or frozen goods. In some instances, such as those that use an insulated partition, both types of goods can be transported in the same trailer.

Protect from Freeze

Protect from Freeze, as the name suggests, refers to temperature-controlled trailers designed to keep freight above freezing by staying above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, or zero degrees Celsius. This service is particularly important for the cross-border shipping of items such as temperature sensitive produce coming into Canada from more temperate climates to the south.
