As of November 28th 2024, negotiations between the CUPW and Canada Post are still ongoing. As such, the postal worker strike is still in effect, and all service through Canada Post remains halted.
As of December 1st 2024, Canada Post and CUPW are in the process of mediation in the hopes of reaching an agreement. In an effort to better facilitate talks, Canada Post is not providing updates outside the negotiation process at this time.
As of December 8th, Canada Post has tabled a new offer and are awaiting a response from the CUPW. Canada Post is continuing to provide updates strictly in relation to the negotiation process.
As of December 10th, the CUPW has tabled a new offer in an attempt to move negotiations forward and are waiting on a response from Canada Post.
As of December 13th, the Federal Labour Minister, Steven MacKinnon is requesting the appointment of an "industrial inquiry commission" by the Canadian Industrial Relations Board. This would result in a pause to strike activity by the CUPW, giving the commission until May 22nd 2025 to help in the resolution of the dispute before action could be resumed.
As of December 16th, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board has come to the conclusion that Canada Post and the CUPW remain at an impasse with no resolution in sight before the new year. As a result, the CIRB is ordering a temporary halt to strike activities, and ordering postal workers back to work effective December 17th at 8am.
As of December 17th at 8am local time, Canada Post workers have returned to their duties, however a new agreement between Canada Post and the CUPW has yet to be reached. In the event that this impasse persists, CUPW may resume strike actions as of May 22nd, 2025.
Reliable sources such as CTV News, BNN Bloomberg, and the Canada Post and CUPW websites have been providing updates on the status of the strike and the progress of negotiations as they happen.
